Ian Drake was the secretary of City South Football Club from 1953 to 1956, after which he moved to St Kilda where he held the position of secretary until he retired from his career in administrative, management and development roles in 1989. Drake was behind the recruitment of a number of great Tasmanian players to St Kilda, including Howell, Stewart, Baldock, Bingley and Bonney. He was instrumental in the emergence of St Kilda as a powerful team in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. Ian Drake retired in 1989 after 36 years of service as a football administrator.
