Jim Manson enjoyed a highly successful playing career with Glenorchy between 1957 and 1968. He was considered one of the fairest players to pull on the boots in a tough era of the game. He played 210 games for the Magpies and represented the TFL. After his playing career came to an end he became a force in local television and newspapers. Manson’s 25 years in the media made him one of the most recognisable names in football up until the early 1990s.
