Gordon Bowman was a Victorian who played over 500 senior games and won premierships in four states. Upon his move to Tasmania in 1952 he captained the state and won the Lefroy Medal for best state player. He led Sandy Bay to the 1952 premiership and further grand finals in 1953 and 1958. He also captain-coached Mayne (Queensland) and Newtown (NSW) to premierships. He enjoyed a 7-1 win/loss record as Queensland coach from 1963-66 before retiring in Tasmania.
